The Haiti Mission is returning to our pre-pandemic format of collecting toys during all of the Masses at both St. Matthew and St. Bernard on the weekend of September 24th-25th to be distributed to our kids at St. Pierre School in Ganthier, Haiti, in time for Christmas. Toys should be brought up to the sanctuary during the offertory of the Masses. We will also accept checks and cash and there will be a box on the altar at each Church. Checks should be made out to Blessed Sacrament Parish with “Christmas in September” on the memo line.
The situation in Haiti has been deteriorating for a long time, placing much stress on its people. This is one way we can bring a small ray of sunshine and hope to these innocent children caught in the middle. We ask that toys be on the smaller side so they will fit into the shipping barrels without difficulty, that they not be battery operated as they cannot readily replace batteries, and that they not require directions as they do not read English, and please…no toy guns. Black dolls and toy cars/trucks are very popular, as are deflated soccer balls, but other gifts enjoyed by the kids include bubbles, jump ropes, balls, stuffed animals, art supplies, blocks and building toys, jewelry, books (no English books, but Amazon carry’s kids books in Haitian Creole), hair ribbons, clips, and bows, etc.
Please note: Due to the renovations taking place, THIS IS THE ONLY TIME TOYS CAN BE DROPPED OFF as there is no storage available.
