Dear Parish Family,
Welcome to December 2020!!! It’s abundantly clear that this December will be unlike any other we’ve experienced. This month usually finds family from near and far descending on the family homestead for large dinners accompanied with laughter, off key singing, hugs, kisses and jam-packed rooms. Many attend office parties and gatherings with old friends in many different homes. And then there’s Christmas Masses where the ushers squeeze you into the pews so tightly that you need WD-40 to extract yourselves. The overcrowded Churches never bothered us in the past because we were there to celebrate in Word, Sacrament and song the awe-inspiring gift of an all-powerful God taking on human flesh in the form of a vulnerable beautiful child.
That reality will not change this year because of a virus. Even though things will be very different in our homes, work and Churches – the truth of the season will live on through each of us. Through our faith we will make the season of Advent and Christmas beautiful. Too often in the past, the trappings and over-scheduled December calendars distracted us from preparing appropriately for Christ’s arrival. This year, however, we are given a rare opportunity where we can focus better on the ‘reason for the season’ and make this a truly memorable year in our faith and family journey. Every cloud has a silver lining.
On behalf of the staff and clergy of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, I would like to wish you and your family a very blessed, safe and joyful Advent and Christmas. Thank you for your faithfulness and support.
Peace everyone,
Fr. Rick
