Change for Haiti Collection - This Weekend

Our second event will be a collection of “Change for Haiti” on the weekend of October 17th and 18th. That weekend we will have people in the parking lots of both churches from 3:00-5:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am-noon on Sunday collecting any loose change (or dollars!) that you can drop into the containers. This will go into our Haiti Mission Account and used as need arises. And there is always a need.

Thank you all for your continued support of our efforts to bring God’s love to these children.

An Update About our Sister Parish in Haiti

After months of silence we have recently had some communication with our sister parish—St. Pierre Parish in Ganthier. The improvements to the school wall have finally been completed, but things are not good right now. In addition to dealing with the Coronavirus and Hurricane Laura our friends in Ganthier are living in terrible conditions that have resulted from a scarcity of food, electricity (only 2-3 hours per day with no schedule), jobs, clean water, and fuel, and being terrorized by a local gang. On the positive side, school did start last month with August and September finishing up the 2019-2020 year and starting the 2020-2021 year in October. There are 510 children enrolled. The children are getting fed lunch 4 days a week through the efforts of the Blessed Sacrament Parish Dorothy Spalla Feeding Program and another food assistance agency. Communication is difficult, but we persevere and you will be seeing more from the committee in the near future regarding upcoming efforts to support our kids. Please keep St. Pierre’s and her families in your thoughts and prayers.

A Prayer for Haiti:

Mother of Perpetual Help, you have been blessed and favored by God. We come to you today as your loving children. Watch over the Haitian people who invoke you as their patroness and take care of them in their need.  As you held the child Jesus in your loving arms, so take them in your arms. In time of trial, may your children never fail to call out to you. Intercede for your beloved Haitian people, dear Mother. May they, and we, obtain pardon for our sins, love for Jesus, final perseverance, and the grace always to call upon you, Mother of Perpetual Help. Amen.
