This Sunday, January 12th from 6:30pm—7:30pm at St. Bernard Church & Livestream
After hearing Fr. Rick’s letter that was read at Mass last weekend, many parishioners have asked what they can do or if they can drop something off for him during his recovery. Instead of gifts or food, Fr. Rick has asked for us to invite all to a Holy Hour dedicated to healing and recovery.
We hope you will join us in the power of prayer.
Letter from Fr. Rick read at Masses January 4th & 5th
Dear Parish family,
A blessed New Years wish to you and your family. I hope 2025 will be a great year for all of us. I would like to share some news with you about a recent surgery I had at St Francis Hospital. I’ll begin by saying everything went well and I’m on the road to recovery. It all started this past fall when I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. And so began my journey meeting some very wonderful doctors and surgeons who put me through, I think, every test and procedure known to the medical world! December 27th the surgery was performed. They took half of my pancreas and during the surgery made the decision to take my spleen as well.
Never having surgery before, I thought I’d get through the procedure, take 5 days off and be back to the parish with no one the wiser. God has a way of teaching us humility. The next five days in the hospital were rough. I found my strength from my trust in God, prayer, family and the wonderful professionals who helped me. I’ve been home now for a few days and I’m slowly getting stronger. I’ve learned that I need to be patient (not my strongest gift). It is going to take a bit of time to transition back into life and parish. I ask for your prayers and patience as I find my way back to full health. You are in my prayers and heart.
Fr. Rick
