Candlelight Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

Candlelight Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a service of Scripture and song that began in England in the late 1800s. The cherished tradition we know today is based on the Festival of Lessons and Carols introduced on Christmas Eve 1918 at Kings College Chapel, Cambridge.

Our Blessed Sacrament Parish’s service is adapted from the traditional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols that has been enjoyed for over 100 years. We listen to nine brief Scripture lessons, which recount the Fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Birth of Jesus, the Shepherds, the Wise Men, and the Incarnation. The singing of a carol or choral arrangement highlights each lesson’s message.

We hope you will enjoy singing some of your favorite carols along with St. Bernard and St. Matthew Choir members.

Save the date and join us for a time of peace, candlelight, and Advent hope.
